sokin's devotional 54 - all things(even evil) working under the divine plans of God

"Behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation...Then after after seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, declares the Lord, making the land an everlasting waste.
Jeremiah 25:9, 12

---

You gotta feel for Jeremiah because he was constantly proclaiming and exhorting the Israelites to repent from their ways and turn to the Lord from their idols. Only then, he cried, they would not see the destruction that was awaiting them because of the Lord's burning, just wrath against them. Yet no one listened and instead, false prophets filled the ears of the people with messages of hope and longevity..when in fact, Babylon was waiting at the door.

It is no surprise that some considered Jeremiah, the weeping prophet.

God's judgment for the people's sins was therefore 70 years of captivity in Babylon. Along with that, the people of God were scattered throughout the nations and the remnant that remained were left to rot.

But note here believer that even in the evil being done to the Israelites by the Babylonians, not once was God devoid of His power and control. He goes so far as to even considering the evildoer, King Nebuchadnezzar...his servant.

The king that was about to overtake the Lord's people, was considered a servant of the Lord.

Do not be fooled! Evil may be done in your lifetime but not once think that God is turning a blind eye. He doesn't drive an ambulance - He is fully in the situation you are in.

In fact, He is directing and allowing it to happen.

But we must trust that God is ultimately good in all His dealings with us.

And we can certainly also hold onto the promise that our God is also just. For although God used the Babylonians, Chaldeans and all other nations that took advantage of the people of Judah during this time, God rightfully paid them back in return for their iniquity.

Also, the scattered remnant that went into the far reaches of the known world, they would eventually become  the seeds that would be planted in those regions which become the houses of God that Apostle Paul would later go into proclaiming the word of God at.

Be encouraged today, believer! Everything, good or bad, God is still on the throne and in control of the outcome. Be committed in aligning your heart with His through prayer and be certain that all things are under His hands.
