sokin's devotional 51 - peace and anger

"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness."
James 3:17,18

What. a. timely. passage.

To be blunt, right now at this moment, anger boils inside of me. I feel wronged, misunderstood and taken for a fool. I want to say certain things to certain people and I want to just vent my frustrations at them...

Oh, how I see my sinful nature at how I respond to difficulty with anger!

But by God's grace, I was drawn to His feet rather than enacting and responding in anger. I opened the word to find solace and answers and peace for my heart.

While I read, my anger still burned and I wanted to just quickly get over with it, but the Lord kept beckoning me nearer.

And so, I came upon this passage...where it so plainly states that peacemakers are the ones who reap harvest. Not those who satisfy the injustice done to them with throwing injustice back.

Christians are not meant to be pushovers...but there is something that to note when Jesus said to "turn the other cheek."

We must live as people who enact justice, being strong and finding strength for the oppressed and persecuted..

But in many ways, we must also learn to die to ourselves so that we don't burn bridges when they fail us, but rather continue to establish them with peace so that in time, the harvest will return to us.

Remember our Savior Jesus Christ. In His greatest act of sacrifice on the Cross, He displayed His greatest act of strength to reconcile sinners.

Be a peacemaker. Say peace-making words rather than saying things to get your ego satisfied. Take the hit, Christian and by God's grace and His powerful redemption, the harvest will come in time.

Lord, burn this lesson into my heart and soul this day. Amen.
