sokin's devotional 50 - you need people

"Again I saw something meaningless under the sun: There was a man alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. "For whom am I toiling," he asked, "and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?" This too is meaningless - a miserable business! Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Thought one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."
Ecclesiastes 4:17-12

I'm such a loner sometimes. But the thing is, I secretly love it.

I don't mind doing many things alone...and had I not joined staff, I think I would've continued to live this way (well to a certain point..but anyways.)

But the more I live life and the more I read the Word, I come to a 100% full understanding that community, people, friendships with others is totally God's design and plan for us.

We see it in the beginning where God said, "it is not fit for man to be alone"..we see it in Jesus Himself, calling upon the twelve.

We weren't meant to live alone, and we can't function alone either.

Ecclesiastes draws upon this wisdom well by simply stating an observation that a man working alone, for himself, had no one to share that with and so this was a chasing after the wind.

I need you and you need me.

And on a similar note, it's amazing how the Gospel answers the ultimate need of our need for someone, because for those in Christ, the Word tells us that we are never truly alone.

Jesus, the incarnate God... Emmanuel was His name (God with us) ...He is with us till the very end!
Although we may be physically alone, we are never truly ever alone!

So believer, be encouraged. While you may not have people around you now, God is with you in Christ Jesus our Lord, by the presence of the Holy Spirit in you.

But at the same time, seek and find fellowship and community. This is your design and the blessing that God wants you to experience.

time to go find some friends to play with now..haha
