Good stewards for God's glory
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitability to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies - in order that in everything God may be gloried through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:7-11

Self-control...sober-minded...love each other...show hospitality without grumbling..serve one another...good stewards...for God's glory.
My eyes naturally were drawn to these words in this passage. All are examples of the traits of good stewards in this life. In a world that is filled with increasing division, vitriol, experienced in person but also online... these are the hallmarks of faith-filled men and women that we need to strive to be.
And it is not just for our good, but God's glory is at stake. He is glorified when we steward the gifts he has given us for the good of our neighbors, and humanity.
It is far easier to go the other route. To go the way of the world and simply be mean, divisive..to be the exact opposites of the directions seen in this passage. It is far easier to be out of control, in debauchery, to hate/criticize others, to grumble, to serve ourselves.
But we are called/challenged/implored in the Word to seek to be good stewards as God intended, for his glory by doing the things outlined above.

Lord, help me. I am quick to grumble so often. It is so much easier to go that way, but time and time again, when all is said and done, and when the dust settles, I am left feeling empty, regretful, and weak. I have not been a good/wise steward of all the gifting you've given me. Help me also to see with greater clarity, what those gifting are in me. Help me to be one that is able to love others, to show hospitality, to serve others before myself. Especially in the home - help me to love my wife, my kids to a far greater degree than I do now by being a wise steward and leading them in sacrificial love.
Lord, be gloried in my life. With the life I have left, only you know. Help me to be a wise, good steward to honor you. May this pursuit fill me with the greatest joy. Grant me your favor and grace/mercy.
In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
