all you got to do is ask
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:5-7

Further, since James 1 talks about trials, wisdom here is in light of these trials. So James is saying, "if you need wisdom for your trials, ask God with faith, knowing full well that He will supply you with it."
This is really crucial to know because when trials come, we so often need wisdom to discern how to navigate through those rough waters. And often times, during trials, we may try to seek our own resolution by trusting not in God's wisdom, but in the world's or our own natural abilities.
This is the double-minded man that is referred to here, who doubts and tossed by the wind.
Just ask for it. Simply let your requests be made known to God and ask God for His wisdom, and live knowing that He will supply you with it every step of the way.
It is hard to live this truth out though..but we must strive to see it bear fruit in our lives.
For who knows and sees all things like our Lord does? Only He can supply what we need to know and believe to carry us through our storms.
