compassion

"now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Matthew 14:13, 14

"Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing toe at. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."
Matthew 15:32

Jesus had undeniable compassion for people, no matter who was in the crowd. The crowds of 5000 and 4000 (not counting woman and children) certainly had people that were skeptical, simply curious, or selfish in just wanting things from Jesus and not Himself.

Yet, Jesus had compassion on them. Fed them, healed them, and showed concern for them when none of the disciples had any for them.

Reminded of the compassionate heart of Jesus, and how different my heart is wired. How did He show such great concern for a people that He had pre knowledge would abandon Him?

Such is the compassionate heart of the Savior, Jesus. Such is his compassion for me.

Lord, make my heart like Yours. To be enabled to love lavishly because you loved me first in this way.
