sokin's devotional 99 - above, not below

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
Philippians 4:8

---

This verse brings to mind Colossians 3:2 - "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."

We are called to place our minds on things that are worthy of praise. And ultimately, this will lead to God's glory because all creation shouts His praise. Everything from the sunset skies to the ocean waves; from the raging storms and desert sands; from a kind gesture to a happy smile - all things reflect the glory and the beautifully intricate mind of our Maker. "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Colossians 1:17

Doing this brings Him glory because placing our minds on worthy things well up in us a desire to worship. It would be a cold-hearted, prideful thing to come before the Grand Canyon and scoff or snicker. It would also be dishonoring if we worshipped the Grand Canyon and didn't praise the God who thought of its dimensions and brought it into existence.

All things point back to the Father. All things must "roll past us" (Matt Chandler) and well up in us a desire to worship rightly, our Heavenly Father, the Maker of all things.
