sokin's devotional 61 - timing

(for all those in the northeast USA, i pray for your safety and joy even if your lights go out ^^ )

Therefore Jesus told them, "The right time for me has not yet come; for you any time is right."

John 7:6

---

The society we live in is fast paced and the "now" mentality dominates the mind.
We want our movies to download in less than a minute, our lattes brewed in seconds, and our cars to go faster.

We want things immediately and if we get them any slower, we get frustrated.

But on the other end of the spectrum, we must not overlook the fact that sometimes, we may not be acting quick enough.

I see this a lot with Christian brothers and sisters - we sometimes tend to act too slowly and fearfully. We throw out Christian-ese terms like, "God's timing" and "Godly patience", but it really is just a cover up for fearfulness and a lack of faith.

Especially for the men of God - brothers! Don't overthink things! We must take steps of faith, not timid plodding while we look over our shoulder.

For example, when did dating become such a DEEPLY, APOCALYPTIC complex issue? (sorry about the caps..)

I appreciate all the wisdom in dating books, but I feel like it has to a certain extent neutered the ability for men to think and process the Scriptures on their own, and so our thoughts on dating are so confused with our own God-given emotions and urges that instead of honoring sisters, we end up hurting many sisters because of our indecisiveness and beating around the bush. (notice the emphasis on the plural...i am just as guilty)

This isn't advocating recklessness, but the main idea of this I believe is that we must have faith in a God who is able and willing, be ever prayerful asking for His wisdom, and humbly yet boldly taking steps of faith.

Don't move too fast, but at the same time don't move too slow.

Move at the pace of faith, wisdom, and discernment. If you make mistakes, don't bug out. Keep going. Keep pressing on fixing your eyes on Jesus. Keep praying for wisdom. Keep at it.

You are not perfect. You will make mistakes. But trust that even in your mistakes, God is molding you.
