sokin's devotional 42 - faith

"All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. if they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country - a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them."

Hebrews 11:13-16

---

Faith seems to be the word that God is directing my eyes and heart towards these days.

And in many ways, I think this will be the case for most of my life.

Today's Word, I was reminded that in life, you will not always get what you desire/need (or think you need). In fact, although God may promise something, you may not get it on this side of life.

But God's Word and promises are always true, and you can be sure that you will receive the promise sooner or later...in His time.

By faith, all the people that the writer of Hebrews mentions were able to live their lives not even being able to experience the promise that God told them! They only saw it from a distance and yet they still believed.
They lived their lives with faith and a firm eternal perspective.

Oh, that I would have a faith like this - that even when I cannot see it before me, or even taste it in my lifetime, that I would continue to live by faith in the hope that God's Word never fails and His faithfulness endures forever.

That whether on this side or life or the next...God's promises to me will be fulfilled.
