sokin's devotional 32 - equipped for good works
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
2 timothy 3:16,17
---
The Word of God is useful for many things. Paul lists out 4 here:
1. teaching - the Word can teach us how to live, how to act, how to conduct ourselves in this life.
2. rebuke - the Word tells us that the Word (heh) can cut to the bone and marrow of our hearts and souls. The Word has the ability to bring us to repentance and reveal our sins. (hebrews 4:12)
3. correcting - The Word not only convicts us of our sins and wrongdoings, but it provides a solution. It gives us instruction and correction from our wayward ways. All correction is in light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how His atoning work on the cross has corrected the very fabric of our souls so that the basis of our good living relies first on the freedom found in the Cross.
4. training - Like a good athlete or a soldier at war, the Word trains us and builds us up so that we can live faithfully in the midst of the darkness that surrounds us.
Not only is is good for these things but Paul tells us that the Word is also absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt necessary for us in order to do good works. Without the Word of God, the man of God is not equipped.
Without the Word, men of God cannot operate as men. (also for women)
We have to feast on the Word at every opportunity. Pray that scripture would be written upon our hearts so that we can recall His Word to teach, rebuke, correct, and train ourselves and others.
