sokin's devotional 31 - strengthen your hands
"They were trying to frighten us, thinking, 'Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.' But I prayed, 'Now strengthen my hands."
Nehemiah 6:9
---
Nehemiah and his builders faced opposition again and again for their work of completing the wall. They tried to scare them into thinking that other nations are against them and were plotting against them.
Most people might've stopped building the wall at this point. But Nehemiah continued to press forward. He understood that the Master Builder behind all of this was God, and if God desired it, it would come to pass.
So instead of reacting in fear, Nehemiah prayed for "strength in his hands."
For the very thing that the enemies hoped to instill fear into so that the Israelites would stop working, Nehemiah asked that their hands would be strengthened and thereby remain steadfast.
If it is in God's will, nothing can stop it. Do not be fearful of your circumstances. First, ask yourself, "is this what God desires? Is this something God will delight in me doing?" If you can answer that question with a 'yes', continue to pursue after completing your "wall." Keep building as Nehemiah did. Seek to honor God by asking for strength in the very areas of your weakness.
Nehemiah completed the wall. He kept going even when it seemed dangerous and unlikely.
Friends, keep building. Keep going. The Lord is with you.
