sokin's devotional 25 - your treasure dictates your worry
"and do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it."
"for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
luke 12:29, 34
---
the bible clearly tells us not to worry when it comes to our lives. we will be provided for! He will take care of us just as much as the birds of the air has food to eat and places to rest, we too, who are God's own children - how much more will He take care of our needs?
but this ability to be "worry-free" doesn't just click into our minds. It doesn't just happen.
reading this passage might make one think that we simply must stop worrying. but we know that this is nearly impossible.
there is a lot of problems, lot of things to deal with in our lives. Christianity is not like those other religions, or philosohopies which tells the believer to just simply transcend above their problems; to reach a higher level of mental strength so that all of a sudden, we are "worry-free."
no. Jesus goes on further to explain why and how exactly we are able to be worry free.
it depends on your treasure.
Jesus says, "where your treasure is, there your heart will be."
what is your treasure? if your treasure, your goal, your most prized possessions fall upon the things of the world, that is where your heart will be. and your heart will never be satisfied and never worry-free. our fleshly, earthly desires are not easily quenched.
but if your treasure is Jesus, if your treasure is of Him who is of infinite profit, then your heart will be without worry.
your heart will learn to rest and rely on the grace of our Lord Jesus, and you will find slowly but surely, that there is no worry for those that place their trust in their Savior.
do not force yourself to be "worry-free" just because you know the truth.
seek your treasure, find your treasure, make your treasure in Him who was the one who told you not to worry.
make your treasure Christ, and you will find the ability to be at peace in the raging seas and stormy days of life.
