i have never fiended for a "break" or "rest" as much as i have wanted to in the past 24 hours.
im usually the type to push through things that demand physical alertness, but after one long sleepless night on tuesday - my body is revolting and finding it hard to recover.
i wanted to sleep in tomorrow but lo and behold, i found out that i have to lead morning prayer.
couple of thoughts came up as i thought about this:
1. rest is extremely important and very biblical. some people neglect this and make "staying up" an idol they must satisfy.
2. at the same time, we often like to complain that we "dont have much time to take a break." but i think we, in fact, have ample pockets of time we can actually rest, but internet and social media have made it progressively harder and harder to drown out the noise and find a quiet time in our brains. (for instance, instead of writing this entry, i could just easily...go sleep)
3. maybe God is trying to teach me something here (which He always is.) maybe, there IS a sliver of truth in the saying, "sleep is for the weak." maybe our desire for sleep is just an easy way out.
4. all it takes is one look at my parents - they wake up at 430am to go to morning prayer and then to work. and theyve been doing this year after year after year after year..... - and i realize that my(our) generation has lost a lot of the hardworking characteristics of past generations. we are very spoiled.
