sokin's devotional 24 - be humble, be raised up. be prideful, be brought down.
"His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love."
psalm 147:10,11
"but after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense."
2 chronicles 26:16
"then He said to them, 'watch out! be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.'"
luke 12:15

Spurgeon writes, "For the way upward is downhill. When we are stripped of self we are clothed with humility, and this is the best of wear."
We see an interesting dynamic happening all throughout scripture, and especially in the old testament.
Sometimes i read the old testament books like judges, and Chronicles and i feel like it should be titled, "people suck but God's faithfulness is stronger."
Time and time again, people start off well, some start off REALLY well, and their pride gets to them. When things go well, they lose sight of God and their pride becomes their downfall.
For those that remain humble in the Lord, God exalts to the highest place. Case in point - Jesus.
But all of my life, i see the same dynamic happening and I have to catch myself.
Are my good circumstances causing me to sin? Are my good standings with people bringing me into areas of pride and self-exaltation?
Things that we take pride in on this earth is here today, and gone tomorrow. The thing that is most important is our eternal destiny. This is not home. Our treasures are not here.
We must live lives with eternal perspectives. Seeing how small we truly are and how vastly we are loved by an Almighty and Infinite God will immediately place us at a humble position before Him.
This is what He desires and this is what will He delights in.
