"but love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then, your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked."
luke 6:35
--------------------------------
ouch, ouch, and ouch. these commands are probably one of the more difficult commands Jesus gives and also the ones that are most often over-looked/ignored.
but why?
people are just so naturally "ME" oriented. We all want to secure our dignity, our fortune, our fame. We may ask God, (or more like whine), "just how can i show kindness to those that wrong me? How can i give, and not expect any return?" (or as people these days might say, "how can i lend something and not gain any interest off of it?")
we ask these questions but God answers by,
"demonstrating His own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ. died. for. us." romans 5:8
Yes, Lord. I see. While I myself was probably the biggest enemy you could have ever had, even in my sin, you died for me. Gave up yourself for me because you loved me that much.
And this, my friends, is why we can also love/forgive our enemies and not expect something back everytime.
It's hard, but in Christ (thank God) - it isnt impossible.
