"what is more, i consider everything a loss compared to knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake i have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that i may gain Christ..."
philippians 3:8
-----------------
this was my calling verse that i point people to when asked, "what is a bible passage that reflects your life and desire in life?"
But upon re-reading this passage today, my eyes fell upon the words of "lost all things."
I dont know why, but I used to gloss over this phrase. I fully understood what it said, what it meant, but for some reason, as I looked upon it today, it took to a whole new level of meaning.
Paul, lost ALL THINGS...considered things of the world garbage in view of Christ's glory.
This was his key of being able to find "joy in all circumstances"(phil 4:11)
It wasn't that he lost all earthly things and gained another "thing." But rather, he was able to say that even if he didn't have a single possession in his name - even if he were to endure tough trials and lose this health, wealth, and relationships - he would be content because he gained Christ.
we live in a very materialistic world. especially in America. the pursuit of things is ongoing and a constant battle for most people.
i want to live a life where my soulcry/heartcry would be that even if i were to lose everything, that i will still have everything in Christ.
Lord, teach me.
