sokin's devotional 89 - longing for our treasure

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trust in you!
Psalm 84:1, 2, 4, 10-12

---

The psalmist here exclaims a great truth that will stand for eternity - it is good to be with the Lord.

He would rather be a lowly doorman in the presence of God than dwell in rich tents of the wicked. This psalmist has found his treasure and nothing is better than that.

Yet, I don't feel the weight of this truth resonating within me. Deep down inside, I know my soul longs for God - how can it not? I was made in His image...it longs for it's Creator.

But here on earth, I wage war against my flesh that desires the things of this world. But this is where my proclivity must not trump truth. The truth stands - it is blessed to be with the Lord. He bestows favor on those who trusts in Him.

My inclination is for sin, but my redeemed heart is fighting for the truth. We must lean in, press in, cling onto that truth and see it come to life moment by moment.

It's like a miner who finds a diamond. His caked over goggles cannot give him the eyes to see the wealth in his possession. In his hand, the diamond feels sharp, edgy and not as pleasant to hold than a mound of dirt. It is not until he cleans the goggles that he will see the treasure.

Every wipe to remove the muck in our "goggles" will enable us to see our "treasure" that much more clearly.
