Worth everything
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field. Again? The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had and bought it.”
Matthew 13:44-46 CSB

The kingdom of heaven - or in another words, the current and future rule, reign, and presence of God, most clearly manifest through Jesus, through whom by us surrendering to and embracing Jesus as our greatest treasure, is able to experience His love and grace today and his eternal joy in the future - is worth everything. Everything. Full stop. If we can manifest this kingdom and his presence into an object, this object is so valuable, so instantly noteworthy that we would drop everything, sell everything, so that we can attain it. Giving up everything for the sake of God’s kingdom is not loss - we give up little to gain everything in return.
Does my life reflect a deep love and complete abandon to everything else in light of what God’s presence means to me? Am I living in a way where I will get rid of everything, if I can “gain” Christ and His fellowship?
Lord, incline my heart once again, to embrace you as my greatest treasure. My greatest need. My greatest joy and reward. Make nothing else compare. Make everything else be in light of you. That I may remember that all things are from you and through you. In the experience of the good things in my life, may I remember that you are the source.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
