Steadfast in the promise of God

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. I will thank you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly.
Psalm 52:8, 9

No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.
Romans 4:20, 21

To be steadfast means to be: resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. Loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dedicated, dependable, reliable, steady, true, constant, staunch, solid.

David showed it. Abraham showed it. And what I've been realizing more (especially as I meditate on John Piper's "Future Grace" excerpts) is that they were steadfast not simply because of God's past faithfulness, but simply on the trust/faith in the promise of His faithfulness tomorrow.

We can be/must be steadfast even when things are going badly, not based solely on the fact that God has pulled through before (and He most certainly has) .. but on the promise that tomorrow, God's grace will be ever with us, pushing us through.
