blessed are the meek
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5

ESV study bible says about the word "blessed" that it is, 'More than a temporary or circumstantial feeling of happiness, this is a state of well-being in relationship to God that belongs to those who respond to Jesus’ ministry.'
Being blessed means that your joy isn't based on something temporary. It isn't fleeting. Too often, I find myself counting my "blessings" only to realize that my joy is placed on things that can be snatched away.
Finances, people, situations panning out the way I want - all these things can well up inside a believer a praise and thanks to God, and it may indicate our blessing from the Lord...
But our identity as being blessed does not come from those things alone - it comes from God.
We are blessed not because we have much or have experienced much - we are blessed because the Giver of blessings knows us and loves us.
A large portion of the beatitudes includes statements that do not indicate blessing initially -
I am dwelling and believing in the promise that blessed are those that are meek. I don't have to force things and manipulate situations (and people) to get what I want, but can steadfastly do what I need to do, ultimately trusting that God will make all things in His time and ways.
Lord, bind my heart to see that I am blessed today because you are my Father.

blessed are the poor in spirit.
blessed are those who mourn...
blessed are the meek...
blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness...
blessed are those who are persecuted..
blessed are you when other revile you and persecute you...
In all things, we are blessed not cause of our present circumstances, but because our Heavenly Father knows what we need and gives us Himself as a response to our need.
