sokin's devotional 96 - perfect peace

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

The path of the righteous is level; you make level the way of the righteous.

Isaiah 26:3,4,7

---

As I prayed after I read my bible passages for the day, I had such a jumbled mind with so many different thoughts and desires that it became hard to pray.

It felt like the moment I closed my eyes, a flood of prayer requests, personal desires, and also convictions from the Lord were all crashing against my mind at once.

It didn't make prayer pleasant.

It's true that we should pray to God honestly and openly with whatever is on our hearts, but I found that my honest heart and mind before the Lord in that moment was all over the place. I was on the verge of being overwhelmed with all the things that was on my mind and heart.

So I took a moment to reflect and remember the Word that I read today.

Isaiah reminds us here that our God will keep us in perfect peace. Our minds which are stayed and fixed on the Lord, that trusts in Him will be in peace. I can trust in Him because God is steady - He is an everlasting rock. He makes our way level.

This spoke to me more than the physical manifestation of this truth - yes and amen that God can make our paths straight here on earth - but the truth that this peace is one that transcends the physical and is able to affect more so the inner self gave me greater hope.

I made a prayer journal again after this moment and started jotting down the ongoing prayers in my life as well as the practical, immediate things. This was a very good practical way to jot my thoughts down instead of going into prayer without a plan. (of course, leaving room for reflective, spirit-led prayer moments where God just moves my heart to pray for things not noted.)

Nonetheless, I believe the Lord is calling me today to remember that my mind needs to remain rested in Him. Perhaps, there will be moments when I do not whip out this prayer list and I decide to just sit down and think about and thank God for who He simply is - God.

We pray ultimately, to get God.

All of life, every spiritual discipline whether it be fasting, prayer, reading the Word - all these things are just means to get God at the end of it.

As we pray to our God, who is a steady rock, trustworthy beyond our understanding, let us pray with a desire for Him and less for His stuff. As we do that, I believe God will give us perfect peace because He will be our peace.
