sokin's devotional 66 - do not love the world
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything int he world - the cravings of the sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desire pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
1 John 2:15-17

Pretty straightforward - do not love the world, but love the Word. And love the Word incarnate. (Jesus).
Love God, and love people. (Matthew 22:36-40)
It's easy to love the world though. And that's because of our sinful nature...our sinful flesh that still longs for the things that are temporal.
But believer, you were made with eternity in mind. You don't have a soul - you have a body. We, spiritual beings, were made for eternity but sin infiltrated our lives and corrupted us to the very core. Our thoughts, desires, wishes and dreams have become so diluted with sin that the things of God sometimes do not captivate us like it should.
But Christ redeems. He is a redeeming God and through His blood, has cleansed you so that you can experience the fullness of knowing Him and aligning our lives with the desires of God.
Delighting and desiring after God is the greatest act of joy we can have in this world. Who better to seek out than the author and source of joy?
We must believe that and love God and the things of God.
All things in the world will pass away at one point or another. They are are temporary. And the world will bite you back if you place all your trust in it.
But God is eternal and lives forever. He never fails.
Simply doing this however is not such an easy process. Being that our hearts are so vain and prone to sin and wander, we must ask of this of God - to transform our hearts and sanctify us by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We are unable to desire God...yet God, the great pursuer of our hearts, will gladly answer that prayer at any moment.
The heart that hungers for God and cries out to Him will never be denied by the Father.
Oh Lord, fix my eyes on Jesus today and forevermore. May I delight and desire no one more than You, Yourself God.
Keep my heart pure and persevering in integrity and transform my heart oh God. To delight and honor you and those that deserve protection.
Be with those that need you most at this time.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
